"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them become what they are capable of becoming." -- Goethe
In the perspective of the classroom, if, we as teachers treat our students as if they will be sucessful, then they become capable of being successful. If we view our students as failures, then they will fail because that is our mind set and ultimately we will not give them the best that they deserve from us.
I have been working hard on my technology blog but it is hard to say whether or not I have reached target. I have submitted my blog to Dr. Rivera and hopefully she will be able to provide me with some feedback. How are you all doing with your blogs? As for the Language Arts Conference, have we decided what the presentation will be and who is taking the lead? Keep me posted.
I like what you wrote about viewing our students as failures. I sometimes overhear some of my peers talking about some students being impossible to teach, however I don't think it is impossible for students to learn it just takes time, dedication and trying to find what works. I've had students whom were difficult to teach, but working with them and seeing them overcome their difficulties has allowed me to experience that rewarding feeling of accomplishment that I had taught that child to overcome his/her struggle.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. In my experience as a teacher, I am concerned by the attitude of teachers who think that way - that some kids are impossible to teach. I like how you think and someday you will know just how much of a difference you've made in the lives of your students.
ReplyDeleteAfter a challenging day at work, this is a great proverb to read and get your mind back into perspective...thank you Faye for your insights.
